Born to surf! East Coast Paddle surfing is the brainchild of two water sports enthusiast cousins, John Denney and Kane Baker. Born and raised on New York's Long Island, John and Kane found the joys of the sea early in life. Kane was the first to discover surfing on Long Island's sandy beaches, and soon shared his love of the sport with his favorite cousin, John. John went on to reciprocate the favor by turning Kane on to the joys of remote control airplanes, kite surfing, and eventually, standup paddle boarding. Once bitten by the surf bug, the Long Island waves didn't provide the challenge that the boys were looking for. They spent the next years taking many surf trips around the world, to such excellent surf locales as Indonesia, South Africa, Tahiti and Costa Rica. The call of the surfing life took John to Maui and Kane to Florida, where they each pursued surfing and any other water sports that offered. The cousins, although separated by thousands of miles, kept in close touch and shared their water adventures with each other. John, totally immersed in the Maui surfing life, learned to tow in into huge waves at Maui's Jaws, to windsurf, to kite surf , and then discovered standup paddle boarding. Situated as he was in the midst of Maui's active surfing community, John befriended some of the world's greatest watermen and shapers, such as Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama and was exposed to the latest in gear and boards. As always, John shared his new enthusiasms with Kane, and sent him all the latest standup paddle boards from Maui. Kane took to standup paddle surfing like a duck to water, and soon all his friends were paddle surfing too. John and Kane had always wanted to build a business together, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity - John knew all the best shapers in the world, and Kane was perfectly located to bring these great boards to the East Coast, where paddle boarding was just getting a start. The rest is history: East Coast Paddlesurfing was born, dedicated to being the East Coast standup paddle surfing center and providing the best cutting edge boards and paddles from Maui to Florida and the East Coast!
